Why choose the KlasHopper 600 instead of the KlasHopper 200/400? |
The KlasHopper 600 was released in April 2003 and was designed to give excellent PC connectivity and performance over 128K Inmarsat satellite channels. The KlasHopper 600 joins the two older versions of the KlasHopper - the KlasHopper 200 and KlasHopper 400.
The KlasHopper 200/400 were originally designed in 1998 to allow PC users connect to the Internet at 64K over Inmarsat B HSD links. Since then we have expanded the functionality of the KlasHopper 200/400 to allow it support PC to PC/Network connectivity via type 1 encryption devices such as the KIV-7, STE and Brent (UK). However, over the last two years encryption users have requested more and more that we design a KlasHopper card that would support speeds of 128K and 64K. The KlasHopper 600 was designed to meet this requirement.
During our research phase we discovered that performance or throughput of the channel was also an issue. Allot of users who were using router based solutions at 128K over satellite complained of poor throughputs, they were getting on average 80K performance from a possible speed of 128K. This represents a very significant loss of performance – the data transfer over the 128K link was taking 40% longer then it should. It was clear that to satisfy customers, the KlasHopper 600 needed to give not only connectivity but also excellent performance at 128K.
The key features of the KlasHopper 600 are as follows: |
KlasHopper 600 Performance Guarantee |
Klas guarantee excellent throughput at 128K using with the KlasHopper 600 specifically we guarantee a minimum 120K throughput over a 128K M4 satellite link.
Note. To insure performance this following configuration must be used:
*KH600--KIV-7/STE --KlasTA – 2 M4 ### 2 M4-- KlasTA-- KIV-7/STE --*KH 600
*(PC Running FTP using KlasPeer2Peer) |
KlasHopper 600 compliments the KlasTA perfectly |
The KlasHopper 600 was specifically designed to support two single channel 64K calls bonded by the KlasTA. |
KlasHopper 600 does everything the KlasHopper 200/400 did and more |
The KlasHopper 600 is fully backward compatible with the older versions of KlasHopper. This allows users to easily upgrade their existing KlasHopper based systems from 64K to 128K simply by replacing the older KlasHopper with a KlasHopper 600. Please be aware the KlasHopper 600 only supports Windows XP and Windows 2000 operating systems. |
KlasVideo Support |
KlasVideo is our most innovative video product to date, it is designed to allow PC users to connect to H.320 VTC systems. However the KlasHopper 200 or 400 do not support KlasVideo. To operate KlasVideo an encryption user must have a KlasHopper 600 installed on his PC. (KlasVideo requires a PC card with ISDN CAPI support, which is also provided by KlasHopper M4 for “in the clear” users) |
Legacy Support |
We may discontinue the KlasHopper 200/400 in 2004 so from a legacy support point of view we would recommend you purchase the KlasHopper 600 rather then the KlasHopper 200/400. |
| COM Port Application support |
KlasHopper 600 affords users of COM Port based software access to synchronous links. Examples include Hyperterminal and AMOS Mail . |
RS-232/RS-449/V.35 Support in the one Card |
KlasHopper 600 allows users to interface with multiple cabling interface types from the one card. Previously users of KlasHopper 200 were restricted to RS-232 and KlasHopper 400 users were restricted to RS-449. |
Diagnostics |
KlasHopper 600 helps the user diagnose any problems he may encounter by providing extensive diagnostics output. |
