TAMPA, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Tampa Microwave (TM), a veteran owned small business specializing in manportable satellite communication terminals, and Klas Telecom, a small business specializing in compact baseband solutions, have announced a strategic agreement to jointly market their products to Department of Defense, Federal and State customers. Tampa Microwave will offer its family or manpack satellite terminals in X, Ku and Ka bands. This class of terminal offers industry leading data rates, lowest system weight and a form factor that permits transport in compact rucksacks. Klas Telecom will contribute their family of PiONEER baseband systems that offer sophisticated, reliable routing and encryption capability in compact form factors.
The KLAS PiONEER 2200 baseband system provides dual enclave RED/BLACK routing and accommodates Type 1 secure communications for satellite networks. The system weighs 7.5 lbs with a SECNET54 encryption module that enables simultaneous SIPR and NIPR connectivity. When integrated with a Tampa Microwave manpack, the combined products provide low cost, broadband, beyond line of site access to key tactical and strategic networks for highly mobile, dismounted units of action.
Already in use with elements of the US military forces, the KLAS PiONEER 2200 will complete FIPS 140-2 validation in Q3 2010. TM’s X-band manpack terminal is certified for use on Paradigm’s SKYNET 5C satellite network and will complete WGS certification in Q3 2010. When integrated with a TM manpack terminal, the entire system packed in a single rucksack weighs 40 lbs.
Tampa Microwave provides man portable and transportable satellite ground terminal solutions to Department of Defense and commercial customers. Since 1983, they have furnished microwave components, specialized test equipment, satellite simulators and now full terminals in X, Ku and Ka bands to government customers and prime contractors worldwide.
