Commercial-Off-The-Shelf (COTS) networking products are often repackaged and sold as first-in communication solutions to the DOD. Their large weight, power consumption and general lack of robustness makes them cumbersome and prone to failure in tactical environments. The benefits of commercial IT to the DOD is clear, but the reality of bringing office IT equipment ‘to the edge’ is shot with problems. As an Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) of networking components for the DOD, Klas has worked with our customers to get the best Commercial IT available today onto smaller, lighter, and less power hungry platforms than are produced by COTS IT manufacturers. To support this effort Klas designed the first open standards IP Router specifically built for the DOD first-in communicator. The KlasRouter platform allows our customers add all the IP networking protocols, ports and compression algorithms that they require onto one tiny router board. This core technology is complimented by our in-house electrical, mechanical and power engineering capabilities, to enable our customers to design and build the exact fly-away-case networking node for their mission requirements.
