  1.0 Introduction

This document describes how to open a HyperTerminal session with KlasRouter.  HyperTerminal is a MS Windows application that allows a PC to communicate with KlasRouter via an RS-232 serial connection.  After establishing a HyperTerminal session, users can access the KlasRouter Configuration Menu.

  2.0 Configuration of KlasRouter

2.1 Cable Connections

Prior to beginning, ensure the following cable connections have been properly secured:

  1. Power cord is plugged in and KlasRouter is on.

  2. Control Port Cable is connected to the PCs serial port.
  3. Control Port Cable is connected to the 'Control' port on the front of the KlasRouter.

2.2 Establishing a HyperTerminal Session

  1. To configure the KlasRouter, you must establish a HyperTerminal session between a PC and the KlasRouter.  Using Windows XP, follow the sequence below to open the HyperTerminal application:

o       Click Start

o       Select All Programs

o       Select Accessories

o       Select Communications

o       Click on the HyperTerminal icon to execute the application

  1. In the 'Connection Description' window, enter a name describing the current session (e.g. KlasRouter) and click OK.
  2. In the 'Connect To' window, select the appropriate COM port in the ‘Connect using’ drop-down box.  (Note: The appropriate COM port is laptop dependent.  Some laptops have a 9-pin console port that you can connect directly into.  Others do not have this port and require a USB adapter cable.  Use the Device Manager, if necessary, to ensure you have entered the correct COM port for your laptop.)
